We understand that being able to stay in the same room as a friend can make or break a camper's experience. That is why we do our best to ensure that each camper is in a room with at least one friend during a camp session. This is accomplished in a few different ways.
Request Codes // On the registration form, if a camper wishes to ask another person to be a roommate, our system will create a special code associated with the proposed request. When the invited roommate registers (or afterwards, when they use the parent section to review their choices), the roommate page will let them enter this code, connecting the two registrations a camper name can be requested with up to 9 other friends. Thus, they will be linked and already counted as roommates in the system.
Camper Names // If you do not know the parent email for your camper’s friend, you can also list the friend’s name on the registration form. Camp staff will see these and will be used to help in the rooming process.
Making Changes // If you forgot to add a friend to your camper’s registration, you can edit the roommate section of your camper’s registration in your account, or you can email/call the Camp Illiana office, and staff can manually add the request.

You're welcome to drop by Camp Illiana anytime, but we have a small favor to ask. During camp sessions, we gently suggest that parents and family members hold off on visiting. We've noticed that surprise drop-ins can sometimes throw off a group dynamic, not just for your own camper but for their group too. It's strange, but true—campers who were having a blast might suddenly feel homesick after a family visit, and that feeling can spread. If you've have something your camper needs, just give our office a call or email us and we'll help you arrange a quick drop-off that keeps camp going strong.

Experience has shown us that most campers are happier with others at their peer level. For this reason, we break the sessions up by age and host several different sessions of camp to accommodate all ages. While we may be flexible (after a conversation with a parent) with the age groups, we encourage you to seek an age-appropriate session for your camper. our camps and their age ranges are as follows: (Grade entering in the fall)
Day Camp: Kindergarten - 1st grade
Overnighter: 2nd - 3rd grade
Elementary: 4th - 6th grade
Middle School: 6th - 8th grade
High School: 9th - 12th grade

During a session of camp, we strive to help campers take their next step in following Jesus. One of the wonderful things about being at camp is that campers are able to get away from the distractions of the everyday world. Camp Illiana is a great place for campers to connect to God through His word, relationships, nature, and activities. Camp is also a great time for self-discovery and testing out one's independence. Experience has shown us that allowing campers to have phone contact with friends or family outside of camp detracts from the camp experience, disrupts our ability to build relationships at camp, and often breeds homesickness.
A mildly homesick camper usually becomes a very homesick camper after a phone conversation, and campers who have no homesickness often suddenly develop it when they become aware that their friend has a hidden cell phone. For these reasons, we do not permit campers to have cell phones (even if they are intended to be used as cameras) and ask that you help enforce this policy by not allowing your camper to bring a phone.
Please know that if a situation involving your camper warrants parental involvement, be it severe homesickness, a behavioral issue, or a healthcare concern, we will contact you. If you have an emergency and need to contact your camper, please call our office at (812) 254-3322. Your confirmation email will also list multiple cell phone numbers of staff should you need them.
-
All lost and found items will be washed (if possible) and kept for two days. After those two days, anything that is left over will be donated. During check-out, you and your camper will have a lost and found station to stop at on the way out of camp. If your camper lost something at camp that you did not find during check-out, you can contact the camp office or fill out our lost and found form on our website.
-
Campers may bring money to camp to use in the camp store and to give to missions. We suggest talking to your camper about the money you are sending with them. It may be helpful to put certain amounts in envelopes for each day or to plan out what they would like to purchase/give ahead of time. Our suggested mission amount, ($25) and camp store prices are listed above

Check In/Pick-Up
-
Check-In
Check-in is drive-through style. You will enter the front gate, and staff members will be in place to help guide you to where your camper needs dropped off.
Please have their bedding and luggage easily accessible.
Please feed Day and Overnighter campers before arrival, as there will be no breakfast meal served immediately after their arrival.
Move through all stations in the check-in process: check-in, room confirmation, medicine check-in, and food allergy station. You can drop any mail off at the office on your way out.
Next, a Junior Faculty will greet you at your vehicle to help your camper carry in their things.
Say goodbye and have a safe ride home. See you on Pick up Day!
You may also stop by the Camp Store to purchase items for your camper/family.
If you will be arriving late to check-in, please let us know in advance.
There may not be anyone one in the office during check-in, however we do check the messages before giving away your spot to a camper on the waitlist slots.
Failure to contact us ahead of time could result in the loss of camper's spot at camp.
Please note: Before check-in time, staff members are busy preparing for your camper's session of camp. We ask that all campers arrive only during the scheduled times.
-
All Campers should be picked up in front of their dorm where you dropped them off.
Campers should have any unused medication that was turned in during check-in, and if not, please check with the First Aid Staff.
Please double-check to make sure that you take everything you brought.
Enjoy all of the stories from your child's camp session!
Please note: Because early departures can disrupt your camper and his/her group, we encourage you to plan according to the session timelines. We understand that unusual or emergencies can exist and ask that you notify the office as soon as possible, if your camper’s departure time differs from the camp schedule.
Late pick-ups: Please understand that our staff have other responsibilities and duties related to the operation of Camp Illiana, which begin immediately after the official end of each camp session. As such, providing care for campers after the scheduled pick-up time is difficult. Please arrive on time and take note that Camp Illiana operates on Eastern Time. If you have arranged for someone else to pick up your camper, please tell your camper this and inform us at Check-in.

We make every effort to assure that your camper will be in the room with at least one friend. During the check-in process, there will be room selection sign-up sheets where a camper may sign up and sign a friend up (even though they might not both be present at the time) Large groups of friends may need to split up depending on group size and room availability.
-
Our volunteers generally do not have the special skills needed to work with special needs campers. However, we are open to discussing a parent attending camp with their special needs campers. We desire to see every camper that comes to Camp Illiana have the best experience possible. The situation may also require a Doctor's Note clearing them for a full camp session and the activities they will be involved in while here. Please give us a email/call if your special needs child is interested in attending camp before signing up him/her.
-
It is the policy of Camp Illiana that staff members and volunteer faculty are prohibited from using physical discipline in any way for behavior management of campers. No form of physical discipline is acceptable. This prohibition includes spanking, slapping, pinching, hitting, or any other physical force as retaliation or correction for inappropriate behaviors by campers.
If a camper is unruly or fails to comply with verbal warnings or instructions from a staff member or volunteer faculty, the Camp Illiana Executive Director will contact the camper’s Parent. If the behavior persists, the camper’s Parent will be contacted to pick up the camper.
-
Experience has shown us that most campers are happier with others at their own peer level. For this reason, we break the sessions up by age and host several different sessions of camp to accommodate all ages. While we may be flexible (after a conversation with a parent) with the age groups, we encourage you to seek a session that is age appropriate for your camper. Those age are listed below:
Day Camp: Kindergarten - 1st grade
Overnighter: 2nd - 3rd grade
Elementary: 4th - 6th grade
Middle School: 6th - 8th grade
High School: 9th - 12th grade
-
Camp Illiana’s room groups typically consist of 10 campers overseen by either 2 adult faculty or an adult faculty and junior faculty. The total ratio, including program and non-program staff, is approximately 50 faculty for approximately 290 campers. There are, in addition, approximately 40 summer staff members who work at camp all summer.
-
At Check-in, you will have the opportunity to sign up for a room and at that time, the faculty/leaders for each room will be listed. The men and women who make up our faculty are often former campers, while others are recruited from local churches (often your own) and colleges. All of our faculty go through extensive training regarding their responsibilities and camp policies and procedures. Each faculty is background checked and is required to follow the camp safety policy.

While each camper is encouraged to pack according to their own needs, we understand that knowing what to bring for a session away from home can be stressful. We suggest checking out the packing lists on our website (campilliana.org) for some ideas, as well as make sure you bring these essentials:
Bedding // Camp Illiana does not provide any sort of bedding or blankets. We suggest bringing either a sheet set and blankets or a sleeping bag.
Towels // Campers will most likely be swimming in the pool, boating in the lake, and showering. For this reason, campers are encouraged to bring at least 2 towels.
Shoes for activities // sometimes, a camp session will include messy games, rainy weather, and long days of outdoor activities. Make sure your camper has shoes that can get dirty!
Sunscreen // Summer days at Camp Illiana tend to be bright and sunny. Please make sure your camper brings sun protection!
Bible // Camp Illiana is a treasured place where people come to take their next step following Jesus. We saturate every camp session with the word of God. We highly encourage campers to bring their Bibles with them so they can follow along and continue to grow their relationship with the word.
What NOT to bring
While there are plenty of essentials to bring to camp, there are also plenty of things NOT to bring. Please ensure these things are not in your camper’s bag before arriving at Camp Illiana.
Food & Snacks // While our lodges are completely enclosed, we are still in the middle of the woods. Food and sugar, unfortunately, attract all sorts of bugs and critters, creating a very uncomfortable experience for everyone involved. Please do not let your camper pack snacks nor send snacks with them so that we may maintain a clean and comfortable environment for all our campers.
Game Systems or Electronic Devices // Camp Illiana is a place where campers can come to unplug, take a break, and dive deeper into their relationship with Christ. For this reason, we aim to limit outside distractions by prohibiting game systems and other electronic devices, including cell phones.
Weapons, drugs, alcohol, and vapes // These items are strictly prohibited. If they are found on a camper, they may result in immediate removal from Camp Illiana.

We teach that believing in Jesus means trusting and following Him as both Savior and Lord. When we commit to trust and follow Jesus, we express this faith by repenting from sin, confessing His name, and receiving baptism by immersion in water. Baptism is an expression of faith and is for the remission of sins. We uphold baptism as the normative means of entry into the life of discipleship. It marks our commitment to regularly die to ourselves and rise to live for Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. Each camp session includes an optional class on what is means to baptized. It is a time set apart for those interested in taking the step of baptism to talk in-depth about what it means to follow Christ wholly. If a camper decides to follow Jesus and be baptized, the parents or primary guardian will be contacted to discuss details and give permission. Baptisms typically happen at the end of each camp session, but it is not required that they happen on Camp Illiana’s property. To encourage our campers and support them in their walk with Christ, all campers who have decided to be baptized will receive a t-shirt, a baptism certificate, a next-step book, and a Bible reading plan.
-
While at Camp Illiana, we ask that our female campers wear one-piece bathing suits, covering swimwear with t-shirts and shorts while not participating in water activities. We ask that our male campers wear t-shirts when not participating in water activities and to avoid Speedo-style swimsuits.
-
Our goal is to serve each camper, volunteer, staff member, and guest, by making their dining experience the best it can be to enhance their camp experience. We aim to achieve this by maintaining a neat, clean, and safe facility while cooking and serving healthy and appetizing food. At each meal, we offer various nutritious options that keep campers satisfied throughout their camp session. Camp menus are available on our website (campilliana.org) before the camp session begins.
Mail/Visitation

Campers may bring money to camp to use in the camp store and to give to missions. We suggest talking to your camper about the money you are sending with them. It may be helpful to put certain amounts in envelopes for each day or to plan out what they would like to purchase/give ahead of time. Our suggested mission amount, ($25) and camp store prices are listed above

While you are welcome to mail letters to camp, we encourage you to send letters to your camper through our the Camp Illiana app or drop them off at check-in. If you have letters to drop off for your camper, they may be left during drop off at the camp office. Please ensure each letter includes your camper’s name and room assignment, if known. Mail is delivered each full day of a camp session.
If you would still like to mail letters to your camper, you may send them to: Camp

We have hundreds of letters left undelivered each summer by this method due to the mail arriving after the camp session has concluded.
Campers sometimes receive packages. Packages are not a problem, however, we do ask that those packages do NOT contain any food or snack items. Food products in the lodges lead to the presence of bugs and critters. We appreciate your help in maintaining the cleanliness of our facilities.
-
Absolutely! Campers are always very excited to receive a letter from home. We encourage parents to write their campers while they are at camp. We will have a “mail drop off” area available at check-in. Mail is distributed every day at some point depending on the session’s schedule. To send your camper a letter, please use the following address:

First Aid
-
Camp Illiana’s policy is that all medication (prescription and over-the-counter) be checked in with the First Aid Team during registration. It will be kept and administered under the supervision of the First Aid Team and in accordance with orders from the camper’s physician and with the parent/guardian permission.
Medications are most commonly given at mealtimes and bedtime.
During the registration process, a parental permission section allows the camp to administer any over-the-counter medication he/she may need.
-
The Camp First Aid Station is primarily a short-term treatment center, not equipped to handle extended nursing care. If a camper does not feel well (e.g., fever, diarrhea, vomiting, or any other acute illness), please keep your camper at home. We cannot keep a camper with a condition that could be contagious.
If a camper begins showing any of the following signs, the primary parent/guardian will be contacted and asked to pick him/her up from camp:
Fever
Nausea/Diarrhea/Vomiting
Earache
Suspected Chicken Pox, measles, or other contagious rashes
Suspected Strep Throat
Suspected Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
Pediculosis (head lice)
COVID-19
Any injury requiring a physician’s care
When the First Aid deems it to be in the best interest of the camper
If a camper visits the Camp First Aid Staff Provider for something minor, he or she will receive first aid treatment and continue the camp activities. The primary parent/guardian will be notified of anything more serious.
-
We follow ServSafe guidelines, so we are best prepared for all your allergy and general food needs. We have a ServSafe-certified staff members who can help you and your camper enjoy each meal no matter what! We have a designated cook who prepares and serves allergy meals. If your camper has any food allergies, they should be listed and outlined on their registration form. Those with severe food allergies may bring their food for the week from home if they prefer. Our ServSafe staff member will be available to speak with you before your camper’s session if needed.
-
For many campers, several days away from home is the longest time they have ever been on their own. It is no surprise, then, that homesickness is often the root cause of headaches, belly aches, and trouble eating or sleeping. While these ailments still require medical attention, the emotional side of homesickness is just as important.
Our goal is to encourage campers to stay through the session, as the camp is an exciting and life-changing experience. We do this through conversations, prayers, and comforting bible verses. However, we do not want campers to have a miserable experience. Our homesickness procedure is as follows:
Conversations are had with the First Aid team or another adult volunteer to comfort and encourage the camper. Mantras, prayers, and Bible verses can be implemented if needed.
If conditions do not improve, the designated camp staff or Dean of the session is contacted, and they may decide whether a call to the primary parent/guardian. Camp Staff will discuss options for the camper with the parent/guardian.
Further steps may then be taken based on the conversation between the designated camp staff and the parent/guardian.
If it is determined that it is in the camper’s best interest to go home, they will be sent with an adult volunteer to pack up their things, including medication, and taken to the camp office to be picked up.
-
Your medical insurance covers your camper in case of an accident or injury occurring during a camp session. All campers attending camp should have some form of medical insurance, health sharing program, or be covered by Medicaid. Camp Illiana does carry liability insurance in the case of negligence against property, staff, or volunteer faculty.
